Cold winter nights provide a great opportunity for photographing the Milky Way provided you can maintain some heat in your fingers when erecting the tripod, adjusting the lense and various camera settings. The temperature on this particular night, in late February, was close to zero.

The exciting thing about time exposures is that the finished product can yield details not immediately noticeable such as subtle shadows within the light which is not the result of cloud cover.
